Response: I get x+10

Instruction: and double the results.
 Response:  I get 2(x+10)

Instruction: the answer is 28.
  
Response: So my 2(x+10) equals 28. OK, so I write

                2(x+10) = 28

Instruction: Find the number
 
Response:       I distribute the 2 on the left:

                2x+20 = 28

                I subtract 20 from both sides.

                   2x = 8

                I divide both sides by 2.

                    x = 4

                My answer is 4.
