if the ratio of men to women working for a company is 3 to 2, we have
m%2Fw=3%2F2 ....solve for m
m=3w%2F2 ....eq.1

if there are 110+employees, than
m+%2B+w=110.....substitute m from eq.1
3w%2F2+%2B+w=110
3w+%2B+2w=220
5w=220
w=220%2F5
w=44
there are 44 women work for the company

For most students, an easier path to the solution would be by taking the given ratio 3:2 and doing this:

Let 3x = number of men
Let 2x = number of women

The total number of employees is 110:

3x%2B2x=110
5x=110
