I transform  EQUIVALENTLY  the given equation step by step until getting an answer.

    5x - (2x - 2) = 5


    5x - 2x + 2 = 5


      3x        = 5 - 2

      3x        = 3

       x        = 3/3 = 1.


ANSWER.  x = 1.


CHECK.  5*1 - (2*1 - 2) = 5 - (2-2) = 5 - 0 = 5.    ! Correct !
