The sum of three numbers is 114. The first number is 6 less than the third. The second number is 4 times the third. What are the numbers?
let three numbers be x,y, and z
if the sum of three numbers is 114, we have
x%2By%2Bz=114.......eq.1
if the first number is 6 less than the third, we have
x=z-6....eq.2
if the second number is 4 times the third, we have
y=4z....eq.3
go to
x%2By%2Bz=114.......eq.1, substitute x and y
z-6%2B4z%2Bz=114........solve for z
-6%2B6z=114.......divide by 6
-1%2Bz=19
z=19%2B1
z=20
then
x=20-6
x=14
and
y=4%2A20
y=80
so, your numbers are: 14,80, and 20

The sum of three numbers is 114. The first number is 6 less than the third. The second number is 4 times the third. What are the numbers?
Let 3rd number be T
Then 1st is: T - 6, and 2nd = 4T
We then get: T + T - 6 + 4T = 114
6T = 114 + 6
6T = 120
