Question 1183836: a flag pole is placed at the top of a tower. The angle of elevation of the bottom and top of flag pole from a point on the ground 10m away are 40 and 50 respectively. Find the length of the flag pole Answer by Boreal(15235) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Draw this
The tower + flagpole is the opposite to angles 40 and 50
The 10 m distance is adjacent.
So tan 40=x/10, where x is the height of the tower.
x=10 tan 40 or 8.39m
to the height of the flagpole is y
tan 50=y/10
y=10 tan 50 or 11.92 m
The tower is common to both x and y
So height of flag pole is 11.92 m-8.39 m=3.53 m
