Question 118336: I am trying to help my grandson with his algebra. I have forgotten so much!
The problem: Sketch a narrow parabola tha spills water and has a turning point of (0, -4). Will this parabola have real or complex roots?
I can't even figure out where to start. Any help will really be appreciated. Thank you for your time. Shirley

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Sketch a narrow parabola tha spills water and has a turning point of (0, -4). Will this parabola have real or complex roots
-------------------
Have you grandson plot the point (0,-4) on the y-axis of an
x/y coordinate system.
If the parabola spills water it must look like a goblet that
is upside-down; draw an upside-down parabola that has its
high point (vertex) at (0,-4).
Notice that this parabola does not intersect the x-axis.
That means it has two complex roots.
