If 38 of the sophomores are in favor of the school forming a crew team and 34 of the remaining students (not sophomores) are also in favor of forming a crew team, how many students are opposed to this idea?
Answer by ikleyn(52879) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! .
From the total of 3200 students, subtract 38 and 34 students.
If you will be so lucky to manage this arithmetic correctly to the very end, the result of subtracting will be your answer.
The solution assumes that there are only 2 (two) categories of students, who are either in favor or opposite.
In real life, it may happen that there is a third category of students, who are indifferent to this idea.
Moreover, in real life it may happen that there is a fourth category of students,
who even don't know about this idea and never heard about it . . .
