Let x be the width.
Then the length is 4 less than three times x, or 3x-4.

The perimeter, which is twice length plus width, is 124, so length plus width is 124/2 = 62.

%28x%29%2B%283x-4%29+=+62

Solve using basic algebra.

given:
The length of a rectangle of 4 cm less than triple it’s width,
L=3W-4....eq.1
if the perimeter of the rectangle is 124, we have
2%28L%2BW%29=124....substitute L from eq.1
2%283W-4%2BW%29=124
4W-4=124%2F2
4W=62%2B4
W=66%2F4
W=16.5
then
L=3%2A16.5-4
L=45.5

the length is 45.5 cm and width is 16.5 cm
