You can put this solution on YOUR website!

given:

point (x%5B1%5D,y%5B1%5D) =(-4,-5)
m=3%2F5
use point slope formula
y-y%5B1%5D=m%28x-x%5B1%5D%29
y-%28-5%29=%283%2F5%29%28x-%28-4%29%29
y%2B5=%283%2F5%29%28x%2B4%29
y%2B5=%283%2F5%29x%2B%283%2F5%294
y%2B5=%283%2F5%29x%2B12%2F5
y=%283%2F5%29x%2B12%2F5-5
y=%283%2F5%29x-13%2F5=> your equation

Using the point-slope formula to find the answer, as the other tutor did, is fine.

In my experience, more students prefer using the slope-intercept form, as shown below.

y+=+mx%2Bb

Plug in the given slope and the x and y values for the given point and solve for b.

-5+=+%283%2F5%29%28-4%29%2Bb
-5+=+-12%2F5%2Bb
b+=+-5%2B12%2F5+=+-25%2F5%2B12%2F5+=+-13%2F5

ANSWER: y+=+%283%2F5%29x-13%2F5
