Question 1180013: Jim's Market couldn't keep Crunchy Critter Crackers in stock. Jim started with 300 boxes but everyone wanted them. The first day Jim sold 6 boxes, and on the second day he sold 14 boxes. Each day 8 more boxes were sold than the day before. So after two days, he had sold 20 boxes. If he kept selling the crackers at this rate, when would Jim run out of Crunchy Critter Crackers?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Initially                300
After day 1              300-6=294
After day 2              300-6-14=280
After day 3              280-8

At what rate? At continued 8 boxes per day?
272 boxes in stock AFTER day 3, and sale rate is 8 boxes per day.

"Each day 8 more boxes were sold than the day before. "

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

his selling pattern is an arithmetic sequence

Sn = n/2[(2a+(n-1)d)]
a= 6 , d = 8 Sn = 300
300 - n/2 [ 2*20 + (n-1)*8]
600 = n(40 +8n-8]
600 = 40n^2-32n
/8
75 = 5n^2-4n
5n^2-4n -75=0
solve for x
x= 4.28 days
On the 5th day he wont meet the demand
