Question 118: Why is it true that a line perpendicular to y= 4x-3 would have the slope of -1/4??
Answer by terrtwo(10) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! By definition to find a perpendicular line to a given line, the slope of the perpendicular line will be the negative reciprocal.
For the equation of the line y = 4x - 3, the slope(the m in y = mx +b) is equal to 4, m = 4
The slope for the prependicular line is therefore -1 * ( 1 / m) --> (-1 * 1)/ 4,
--> -1/4
