.
A plane left Kennedy Airport on Tuesday morning for a 710-mile, 6-hour trip.
For the first part of the trip, the average speed was 105 mph.
For the remainder of the trip, the average speed was 125 mph. How long did the plane fly at each speed?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Let t be the time for the first part of the trip, in hours.
Then the time for the second part of the trip was (6-t) hours.
The total distance equation is
    105t + 125*(6-t) = 710.
From this equation,
    t = %28710-+125%2A6%29%2F%28105-125%29 = 2 hours.
ANSWER.  2  hours for the first part of the trip and 6-2 = 4 hours for the second part.
CHECK.   2*105 + 4*125 = 710 miles, the full distance.    ! Correct !
