let the numbers be x,y,z
x+y+z=87 ---------------------------(1)

The second number is 2 times the third.
y=2z
The first number is 9 less than the third.
x = z-9
substitute y & z in (1)
z-9 +2z +z =87
4z-9 = 87
4z = 96
z= 24
