Add -2x to both sides

8x+%2B+%28-2x%29+-+11+=+2x+%2B+%28-2x%29+%2B1

Sum like terms

6x+-+11+=+1

Add 11 to both sides

6x+-+11+%2B+11+=+1+%2B+11

Sum like terms

6x=12

Divide both sides by 6

6x%2F6=12%2F6
x=2

Check:
8%282%29-11=16-11=5, and
2%282%29+%2B+1+=+4%2B1=5.
