if the identical squares have been place side by side to form a rectangle, you have
the area of the figure is 5a%5E2=20cm%5E2
a%5E2=20cm%5E2%2F5
a%5E2=4cm%5E2
a=2cm
then perimeter will be equal to perimeter of a rectangle with the length 5a and the width a:

P=2%2A5a%2B2%2Aa
P=12a..........a=2cm
P=12%2A2cm
P=24cm
