8 people paying amount x each is equivalent to 8+4=12 people paying amount (x-1) each:
8x = 12(x-1)
Solve using basic algebra; I leave that to you.

To be honest, I do not see a real reason/reasons for it.
I really did not understand that writing and asked the visitor VERY POLITELY to clarify.
I gave him (or her) an opportunity to fix that deficiency, and I made it in very polite manner (I repeat it again).
So, I do not see any wrong actions from my side.
Nevertheless, your note forces me to think on the situation again and again.
So, you think, that there is an outer service / (another company/institution),
which obtain the requests by phone and then redirect them to this forum,
and then dispatches our answers back to the visitors . . . Correct ?
To be honest, it is just during many years I thought that the system works this way;
(at least, in part); but, certainly, I did not have proofs for it . . .
May be, you know more (or guess farther and better) than me . . .

words to other words that the
person didn't intend. It's
obvious here that this student
meant "period" to be "paid" and
the phone changed it. Cut
these students some slack,
please.
