Question 1178604: Trying to encourage people to stop driving to campus, the university claims that on average it takes at least 30 minutes to find a parking space on campus. I don’t think it takes so long to find a spot. In fact I have a sample of the last 10 times I drove to campus, and I calculated that average mean time is 20 minutes. Assuming that the time it takes to find a parking spot is normal, and that the population standard deviation is 6 minutes, then perform a hypothesis test with level a=0.10 to test if there is enough evidence to support this claim .

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

Hi
Normal distribution:  μ = 30min and  σ =6
n = 10  mean = 20min
Ho:  μ = 30
Ha:  μ < 30
a=0.10, one-tailed:df9  t = 1.38 critical value

 t-value = -10(√10) /6 = -5.27
|-5.27| > 1.38
Reject Ho, evidence indicates mean is < 30min
