x = the number of dimes

161-x = the number of nickels.


Total money equation


    10x + 5*(161-x) = 1150   cents.


The solution


    x = %281150-5%2A161%29%2F%2810-5%29 = 69.


ANSWER.  69 dimes and 161-69 = 92 nickels.


CHECK.  69*10 + 92*5 = 1150  cents total value.    ! correcxt !
