the length of your new patio is 14 feet
since backyard and patio are same shape, similar rectangles, so the sides are proportional
so, the ratio of the lengths is
40%2F14=2.857142857142857
then the ratio of the widths is same, so
32%2Fw=2.857142857142857
w=32%2F2.857142857142857
w=11.2
new patio has a perimeter of P=2%2814%2B11.2%29=50.4

the dimensions of the yard are l3ngth 40 and width 32.

the patio is going to have the same shape, only smaller.

the length of the patio is 14 feet.

the ratio of the length of the patio to the length of the yard is 14/40.

since the patio and the yard are to have the same shape, then that same ratio of 14/40, applied to the width of 32, gives you a patio width of 14/40 * 32 = 11.2.

the perimeter of your new patio is 2 * (14 + 11.2) = 2 * 25.2 = 50.4.
