Question 1177491: A garden path surrounds a circular garden. The garden path is 5 feet wide all the way around and the distance around the outside of the garden path is 80 feet.
(a) What is the radius of the circle that forms the outside of the garden path? Approximate to two decimal places using 3.14 as the value of Pi.
(b) What is the area of the garden (inside the path)? Explain.
(c) What is the area of the garden path itself? Explain.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Diameter including walkway = 80 feet
so radius = 40 feet
the width is 5 feet
so the garden radius = 35 feet
Area of walkway = total area - garden area
Total area = pi*r^2
=pi*40^2
garden area = pi*35^2
Difference = pi*40^2-pi^35^2
=pi(40^2-35^2)
= 375 pi sq.ft
garden area = pi*35^2
the area of the garden path 375 pi ft^2
