Question 1177338: I'm having trouble with this word problem:
Kayla, the social director, has to decide how to spend the $336 that was raised for the company picnic. For exactly $336, she can either buy 26 single-topping pizzas and 16 bottles of cola, or she can buy 23 single-topping pizzas and 40 bottles of cola.
a.) How much will each single-topping pizza cost?
b.) How much will each bottle of cola cost?
(I'm pretty sure it's a system of equations problem but I'm not sure if I have it quite right. Thanks for your help in advance!)

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x price of pizza
y price of cola

26.00 x + 16.00 y = 336.00

23.00 x + 40.00 y = 336.00 .............2
Eliminate y
multiply (1)by -5.00
Multiply (2) by 2.00
-130.00 x -80.00 y = -1680.00
46.00 x 80.00 y = 672.00
Add the two equations
-84.00 x = -1008.00
/ -84.00
x = 12.00
plug value of x in (1)
26.00 x + 16.00 y = 336.00
312.00 + 16.00 y = 336.00
16.00 y = 24.00
y = 1.50
Ans x = 12.00
y = 1.50
$12.00 price of pizza
$1.50 price of cola
