Calculate the volume in cubic inches of a 12-inch length of 10-inch diameter pipe (volume of a cylinder: where is one-half the diameter of the pipe and is the 12-inch length. Multiply the volume of the 1-foot section of pipe by 0.004329 to get the volume in gallons. Divide the number of gallons per second of flow rate by the volume of the 1-foot section to get the flow velocity in feet per second.
