Question 1176589: To find the height of a tower, a surveyor positions a transit (an instrument for surveying like a telescope) that is 3 meters tall at a spot 95 meters from the base of the tower. She measures the angle of elevation from the top of the transit to the top of the tower to be 32°. What is the height of the tower, to the nearest meter? Answer by Cromlix(4381) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Hi there,
Draw a right angled triangle with base = 95 meters (adjacent)
Using trig ratios:
tan= opposite/adjacent
tan 32 = opposite (height of tower) / 95 meters
Opposite (Height of tower ) = 95 x tan 32
Height of tower = 62.79 meters
Then add the height of transit = 3 meters
62.79 + 3 = 65.79
66 meters to nearest meter. Hope this helps :-)
