The maximum number of seedlings will be fitted in the plot if you start with a pot in one corner.

The number of feet in a row of n seedlings, with a seedling at each end, is 4n+1. (n+3n = 4n feet for each seedling starting from the beginning of the row, plus 1 foot for the last seedling.)

In the 14 foot direction, the maximum number of seedlings in a row is 3, because 4(3)+1=13 is less than 14 while 4(4)+1=17 is greater than 14.

Similarly in the 10 foot direction the maximum number seedlings n a row is 2.

So the maximum number of seedlings is with 3 in a row in one direction and 2 in a row in the other direction, for a total of 6.

ANSWER: 6 seedlings
