the base is 1 inch
the height is a triangle with angle 60 opposite the altitude and angle 30 opposite the base of 1/2. The altitude is therefore (1/2)*sqrt(3)
the area is (1/2)*1*(1/2) sqrt (3)=(1/4)sqrt(3)=0.433 or 0.43
the general formula is sqrt(3)/4 *length of side.

.

The general formula for the area of an equilateral triangle is

            A = %28sqrt%283%29%2F4%29%2Aa%5E2,

where  " a "  is the side length.
