The perimeter is twice the length plus twice the width.

P = 2L + 2W

26 = 2(-w^4+6)+2W

Solve for W.

Note that "w" and "W" are not the same....

Using exactly what you describe and ASSUMING w is for width,
2%28-w%5E4%2B6%29%2B2w=26

2w-2w%5E4%2B12=26
w-w%5E4=13-6
w-w%5E4=7
I believe not.
