.

Physicist writes the equation of conservation energy

    %28mv%5E2%29%2F2 = mgh,

cancel the mass "m" in both sides, and get that required formula

    v%5E2 = 2gh,   or   v = sqrt%282gh%29.

Then he substitutes  g = 32 m/s^2,  h = 100 ft,  and get the ANSWER

    v = sqrt%282%2A32%2A100%29 = 10%2Asqrt%2864%29 = 10*8 = 80 ft/s.

Solved.
