You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Daughter's age six years ago = d
Mother's age six years ago = 3d

d + 3d = 36

4d = 36

d = 9

Daughter's age six years ago = d = 9
Mother's age six years ago = 3d = 3(9) = 27

Daughter's age today = 9 + 6 = 15
Mother's age today = 27 + 6 = 33

.

After reading your post,  I have a question.

It is about this passage  "The sum of their ages  WAS  36."

To which time moment this statement does relate ?

To the past ?     (6 years ago).

Or to the present ?     (now).

If it relates to the present,  then why you use  "WAS" ?

If to the past,  then it should sound in other way :

    "The sum of their ages  WAS  36 years then".

Honestly,  I do not need your clarification.
