A mother is 12 years older than triple the age of her daughter.
The sum of their ages is 36.
Let x represent the daughter's age
Then... Write as You Read
Mother's age is (3x+12)
And
x + (3x + 12) = 36
4x + 12 = 36
Solve:
4x = 24
x = 6 the daughter's age
Mother is 3%2A6+%2B12 = 30
Checking our Answer:
6 + 30 = 36 Checks!

Daughter's age = d
Mother's age = 3d + 12

(d) + (3d + 12) = 36

d + 3d + 12 = 36

4d + 12 = 36

4d = 24

d = 6

Daughter's age = d = 6
Mother's age = 3d + 12 = 3(6) + 12 = 18 + 12 = 30
