You can put this solution on YOUR website!
a passenger jeep traveling at 30 kph leaves a town
two hours later a car leaves the same town and travel in same at 80 kph
how long will it take the car to overtake the jeep;
;
let t = travel time of the car
the jeep started 2 hrs earlier, therefore
(t+2) = travel time of the jeep
:
When the car overtakes the jeep, they will have traveled the same dist
Write a dist equation; dist = speed * time
Car dist = jeep dist
80t = 30(t+2)
80t = 30t + 60
80t - 30t = 60
50t = 60
t = 60/50
t = 1.2 hrs for the car to overtake the gym
:
:
Check this, find the dist each traveled
80(1.2) = 96 mi, car
30(3.2) = 96 mi, jeep

In the 2 hours the jeep travels before the car starts, it travels 2*30 = 60 km.

The difference in the speeds of the two vehicles is the rate at which the car overtakes the jeep, once the car starts. That difference is 50 km/h.

The time required for the car to overtake the jeep is the distance, divided by the difference in the speeds:

60/50 = 1.2

ANSWER: 1.2 hours
