Question 1172844: A wrought-iron washer is 3.5" in diameter, 5/32" thick, and has a hole 1.5" in diameter. Determine number of washers in a 200 lb. container.
Check my calculations, please.
Volume = pi * r^2 * height
3.1416 * 1.75 * 1.75 * .15625 = 1.5033 cu. in. (gross washer volume).
1.5033 - 1.5 = .0033 cu. in.
200 / .0033 = 60606

Hi
Attempting to keep calculations to a minimum:
Subtracting one Volume from another:
V = πr^2d
Washer volume:
(5/32)π[ (7/4)^2 - (3/4)^2] |NOte: (7/4)^2 = (7/4)(7/4) = 49/16
(5/32)π( 49/16 - 9/16)
(5/32)π( 40/16)
(5/32(10/4)π = 1.2272in^3
Weight= .28 lb/in^3 (per Chart of Weights Student used)
1.2272in^3 (.28lb/in^3) = .3436lb
200lb/.3436lb = 582.07 = 582 is the number of washers in a 200 lb. container.
