Question 1171933: PLEASE HELPPPPPP
Brand X sells 32 oz. bags of mixed nuts
that contain 52% peanuts. To make their
product they add peanuts to Brand A's
mixed nuts which contain 20% peanuts.
How much of each do they combine?
Answer by Boreal(15235) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! 32 oz*0.52 (peanuts)=16.64 oz peanuts. That is the goal.
x oz *0.20 (peanuts) is Brand A, so that is 0.20x oz peanuts
they are going to add pure peanuts or 100%, and it is 32-x oz of it, so the total amount is 32 oz.
-
Therefore, pure peanuts, which is 16.64 oz in the final product=0.20x + 32-x
-15.36=-0.8x. Both sides negative so both sides are positive, too.
x=15.36/0.8=19.2 oz of the 20% or 3.84 oz pure peanuts
32-x is=12.8 oz of the pure peanuts, so that 3.84+12.8=16.64 oz peanuts.
-
Combine 19.2 oz brand A with 12.8 oz peanuts.
