let one number be x and other number y
a number is added to a number the answer is 20, we have
x%2By=20.......solve for x
x=20-y.....eq.1

if the difference between the numbers is 4, we have
x-y=4..........eq.2, substitute x from eq.1
20-y-y=4
20-2y=4
20-4=2y
16=2y
y=8
go to
x=20-y.....eq.1, substitute y
x=20-8
x=12

your numbers are: 8 and 12
