My preferred approach to this problem is to convert the given information to say the ratio of length to width is 3:2. Then

let 3x = length
let 2x = width

The perimeter (twice length plus twice width) is 30m:

2%283x%29%2B2%282x%29+=+30
10x+=+30
x+=+3

ANSWERS:
length 3x = 9m
width 2x = 6m

.

    2L + 2W = 30   meters    (1)

    2L = 3W                  (2)

In equation (1), replace 2L by 3W, based on (2). You will get

    3W + 2W = 30

    5W      = 30

     W      = 30/5 = 6.

ANSWER. The dimensions are 6 meters (the width) and 9 meters (the length).

Solved.
