You can put this solution on YOUR website!
A flagpole 20m high stands on top of a tower which is 96n high.
At what distance from the base of the tower will the flagpole subtend an angle of 4.
Use sine or cosine law>
:
Height of flag pole: 20 + 96 = 116 m
let d = dist from pole to point where 4 degrees subtends the top of the tower
A right triangle is formed, use the tangent of 4 degrees
tan(4) = 116%2Fd
tan(4)*d = 116
d = 116%2Ftan%284%29
d = 1,659 meters
:
If they insist on using the sine or cosine, we must find the hypotenuse (h) first.
sin(4) = 116%2Fh
h = 116%2Fsin%284%29
h = 1663 meters from the distant point to the top of the tower
with this info we can find d using the cosine
cos(4) = d%2F1663
d = cos(4) * 1663
d = 1659 meters also
