You can put this solution on YOUR website! Hi there,
Make Max's no of words = x
Matt = x + 20
Mark = 2(x + 20)
Mitch = x - 100
Add them all up.
x + x + 20 + 2(x + 20) + x - 100 = 15,240
x + x + 20 + 2x + 40 + x - 100 = 15,240
Collect like terms and integers:
5x - 40 = 15,240
5x = 15,240 + 40
5x = 15,280
x = 3056 words
Max wrote 3056 words
Matt wrote 3076
Mark wrote 6152 words
Mitch wrote 2956 words.
Hope this helps :-)

------
Use a, b, c & d for Mark, Max, Matt, and Mitch respectively.
---
c = b-20
a = 2c = 2b-40
d = b-100
----
Add them.
a+b+c+d = 15240
(2b-40) + b + (b-20) + (b-100) = 15240
