| Question 1167989:  Hello, I am confused on this question | q - 8 | = 14 , I've tried it but I've gotten stuck at the part where I add 8 to 14 and then I only have q = 22 but i don't think that is the right answer.

This equation
    | q - 8 | = 14
tells you that the number q in the number line is 14 units from the number 8.
There are 2 (two, TWO) such numbers:  8+14 = 22  and  8-14 = -6.
So, your answer is these two numbers,  q= -6  and  q= 22.
