You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Draw this
pool is x feet wide and 3x feet long
the width of pool and walk together is x+2 feet and the length is 3x+2 feet.
That area is 3x^2+8x+4 ft^2
The area of the pool is 3x^2 ft^2
the area of the walk is the difference or 8x+4 ft^2=36 ft^2
Therefore, x=4 feet.
So the pool is 4 feet wide and 12 feet long or 48 ft^2
pool and walk are 6 feet wide and 14 feet long or 84 ft^2
The difference between those two must be the area of the walk, which is 36 ft^2
The answer is 4 x 12 units feet for the pool.
