Hello, could you help me with this problem I appreciate it much so.
Question:
What is the maximum length that is acceptable if a tolerance of 0.005 inches is permitted on a piece designed to be 1.625 inches?

I computed it and came up with and answer of 1.63 inches but not sure whether I need to round the number because of its precision. I just need an expert Math Tutor to verify whether this is correct.

i don't believe you would want to round your answer, since your measurement needs to be exact.
if the length of the piece is 1.625 and the tolerance is plus or minus .005, then the length of the piece could be as little as 1.625 minus .005 and as much as 1.625 plus .005.
that would mean that the length of the piece is acceptable if it is anywhere between 1.62 and 1.63.
you would not want to round it to anything less than the value shown.
you do normally show the trailing zeroes in the decimal part of the answer unless there is a requirement to do so.

So the measurement is given to three decimal place precision, so anything that has to do with it has to be specified to three decimal place precision. Consequently, your answer to the question is incorrect. The answer is .

When I make that claim, I am only guaranteeing that the actual measurement is in the range . But if I were to make the claim that the measurement was inch, I would be guaranteeing that the measurement is in the range
