Question 116672: Ok, I am in 7th grade pre-algebra but whenever my teacher talks I don't understand half of what he is saying. I have looked on numerous web pages, and I came across this one. My question is:
3x (divided by) 2-2=7 This may seem easy but I have no idea what to do. Please help as much as you can. Thank you anyway!

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

3x%2F2-2=7...........3x%2F2 we can write like %283%2F2%29x
%283%2F2%29x-2=7...........since you have a fraction 3x%2F2 on the left, first what you need is to eliminate denominator 2
You can do it if you multiply by 2 all terms on both sides of equal sign.
2%283%2F2%29x+-+2%2A2+=+7%2A2............we can write this as:
3x%282%2F2%29+-+2%2A2+=+7%2A2
3x+-+4+=+14.......move -4 to the right; doing it, it will change a sign
3x++=+14+%2B+4
3x++=+18......now divide both sides by 3 in order to have 1x
3x%2F3+=+18%2F3
x+=+6

you can check your result if you plug in x=6 in:
3x%2F2-2=7...........
%283%2A6%29%2F2+-+2+=+7
18%2F2+-+2+=+7
9+-+2+=+7
7+=+7..... since left side of equal sign is same as the right side, it means x=6 is your solution
