There are 8 doubling periods in all, counting with the very first.


So the answer is 500 bacteria multiplied by  1+%2B+2+%2B+2%5E2+%2B+ellipsis+%2B+2%5E7 = 2%5E8-1 = 256-1 = 255.


ANSWER.  500*255 = 127500  bacteria.
