Hi,
Make Miguel = x
Mary = y
x + 14 = 2(y + 14)......Eq(1)
x + y = 50........Eq (2)
If x + y = 50
x = 50 - y
Substitute x = 50 - y in Eq (1)
x + 14 = 2y + 28...Eq(1)
(50 - y) + 14 = 2y + 28
Collect like terms
- y + (-2y) = 28 - 50 - 14
-3y = - 36
Multiply both sides by -1
3x = 36
x = 12
Substitute x = 12 into Eq (2)
x + y = 50
12 + y = 50
y = 50 - 12
y = 38
Mary's current age is 38 yrs.
Hope this helps :-)
