Show by means of slopes that the four points A(0,0), B(-2,1), C(3,4), and D(5,3) are vertices of a parallelogram.

I much prefer a mental picture over the slope formula for determining slopes of lines....

AB: from B to A is right 2, down 1
CD: from C to D is right 2, down 1
AB and CD are parallel

BC: from B to C is right 5, up 3
AD: from A to D is right 5, up 3
BC and AD are parallel

Pairs of opposite sides are parallel; ABCD is a parallelogram.
