From the combined filling rate, which is  1%2F24  of the pool volume per minute, 

subtract the filling rate of the larger hose, which is  1%2F40  of the pool volume per minute.


You will get then the filling rate of the smaller  hose

    1%2F24 - 1%2F40 = 5%2F120+-+3%2F120 = 2%2F120 = 1%2F60

of the pool volume per minute.


It means that the smaller hose will fill the pool in 60 minutes.    ANSWER
