Question 1163044: 1. A cabinet is pulled across a cemented floor with a rope that makes an angle of 40degrees with the floor. What is the component of the force parallel to the floor if 80-N force is exerted?
2. What is the height in centimeters of a person who is 5 feet 7 inches tall?
3. The wind blows toward 40 degrees with a velocity of 50km/h. What is the vertical component of the wind’s velocity?
4. Ruth walks 5 km North, then 4 km South and finally 3 km East. Find her final displacement.
5. A car travels from rest and attains a speed of 60 m/s in 20 seconds. How far has the car traveled in 20 sec?

.

(2) To solve problem (2), use the facts 1 foot = 12 inches; 1 inch = 2.54 cm.

(5) The distance "how far" = %28at%5E2%29%2F2, where "a" is the acceleration a = v%2Ft = 60%2F20 = 3 m/s^2.

     Thus "how far" = %283%2A20%5E2%29%2F2 = %283%2A400%29%2F2 = 3*200 = 600 meters.

Interesting, that this distance is the same as if you multiply the average speed of 30 m/s by the time 20 seconds

        "how far" = V%5Baverage%5D%2At = 30 m/s * 20 s = 600 meters.

It is the same as "how far" = v%5E2%2F%282t%29.

Memorize these formulas and the method of solution (!)

2. What is the height in centimeters of a person who is 5 feet 7 inches tall?
It's a conversion.
Look it up.
------------
3. The wind blows toward 40 degrees with a velocity of 50km/h. What is the vertical component of the wind’s velocity?
No vertical info is given.
Winds are North & South, and vertical. No vertical info is given.
------------
4. Ruth walks 5 km North, then 4 km South and finally 3 km East. Find her final displacement.
Use graph paper.
---------------
5. A car travels from rest and attains a speed of 60 m/s in 20 seconds. How far has the car traveled in 20 sec?
---
Assuming the acceleration is uniform, its average speed is 30 m/s
30*20 = 600 meters.
We should not have to make assumptions. It should be specified.
