Question 116206: Driving down a mountain, Tom finds that he has descended 1800 ft. in elevation by the time he is 3.25 mi. horizontally away from the top of the mountain. Find the slope of his descent to the nearest hundredth.
My first two equations I have so far is this: y=3.25x-1800 then y=325/100x-1800
Am I correct on the first two steps to continue?
Thank You,

You can put this solution on YOUR website! We have a right angle triangle with base of 3.25 mi and altitude of 1800 ft.
3.25*5280=17160 ft
Now that we have everything in one measure we can work on the problem.
slope=rise/run
1800/17160=.104895
You want it to the nearest hundreth which is .10
