(a)  This equation is

         20*X - 10*(30-X) = 180  cents.


(b)  From the equation

         20X - 300 + 10X = 180

         30X             = 180 + 300

         30X             = 480

           X             = 480/30 = 16.


ANSWER.  You got right 16 questions.


CHECK.   20*16 - 10*(30-16) = 180 cents = $1.80, your profit (!).   Precisely correct (!)
