I need help with this question:
A cylinder has a radius of 4 inches and a height of 14 inches. If a 6-inch strip is cut off around the top of the cylinder, what would be the new total surface area of the cylinder?

The new height becomes 14-6=8 inches. Since you say nothing about any top surface or bottom surface, then surface area becomes 14%2B2%2Api%2A4=highlight%2814%2B8pi%29 square inches.

If you meant, the 6 inche strip is this value in LENGTH of the strip, then you still need to be given the WIDTH of the strip in order to find the cylinder new area.
