You may start with this system of two equations in two unknowns


      x +   y =   50    (1)

    40x + 50y = 2200    (2)


Then you can solve it EITHER by Substitution method, OR by Elimination method.


Alternatively, you may start from this single equation for one unknown

    40x + 50*(50-y) = 2200    (3).


From the last equation, you have

    x = %282200-50%2A50%29%2F%2840-50%29 = 30.


ANSWER.  30 items by 40 naira  and  (50-30) = 20 items by 50 naira.


CHECK.  30*40 + 20*50 = 2200  naira, total.   ! Correct !
