Question 1160509: A minute hand on a clock is 4 inches long. Determine how far the tip of the minute hand travels between 2:10 A.M. and 2:15 A.M. Find the linear speed of the tip.
The minute hand travels ? in.
Simplify your answer. Type an exact answer, using π as needed. Use integers or fractions for any numbers in the expression. Answer by AnlytcPhil(1806) (Show Source):
The circumference of the circle that the tip of the minute hand travels through
every 60 minutes is 2πr = 2π(4) = 8π inches.
So its linear speed is 8π inches per 60 minutes or 8π/60 or 2π/15 inches per
minute.
In 5 minutes (from 2:10 to 2:15), the tip of the minute hand travels
(2π/15 in/min)∙(5 min) = 2π/3 inches.
